We are always on the lookout for talented, dedicated, creative and innovative individuals to join us.  If you have a passion for science and technology, we have an exciting opportunity in our Cyber and Information Systems Division to undertake a Cyber Degree Apprenticeship. You will be joining our team of highly skilled and dedicated employees based at our Porton Down site in Salisbury.  You’ll have the opportunity to learn from colleagues who are experts in their field, and gain insights that can only come from real world experience. The roles we offer are different to a stereotypical ‘computer hacker’ role and we will draw on your interests by expecting you to think creatively about your work.  The role of a Cyber Degree Apprentice will be integral to supporting the development of the UK’s cyber, security and defence capabilities. Work as part of a team to develop and deliver scientific, software or engineering solutions to the UK’s defence & security issues.  At the end of the scheme you will have had a good mix of academic and work-based learning experiences to ensure you develop the skills that will support you and the organisation in the future.  Apprenticeships are a ladder of opportunity, giving young people and adults the chance they deserve to get on and fulfil their potential. This position will also require Developed Vetting (DV) and candidates should have resided in the UK for the past 10 years.   
Person specification
You must be able to demonstrate most of the below:  • A passion in applying computer science and/or electronics knowledge to provide solutions to difficult challenges;  • The ability to think clearly, systematically and logically;  • An aptitude for picking up new technologies and understanding how they work quickly;  • The ability to demonstrate some technical knowledge and practical skills in computing (we anticipate this will have been acquired outside the work environment);  • A willingness to take responsibility for your own learning outcomes;  • The flexibility to work in a technically demanding environment that is subject to frequent change.

Take on feedback effectively and contribute to the teams shared learning and understanding. Identify your own skills gaps and seek training in these areas.

Nationality requirements
Open to UK nationals only. This job is not open to candidates who hold a dual nationality.
Grade entry qualifications
Academic qualifications of 300UCAS points (120 as per new tariff) or above at A-Level standard or equivalent, to include at least two STEM based subjects such as Physics, Chemistry, Computing, Electronic, Maths.  Please note UCAS points awarded for AS levels are not counted.  Plus 5 GCSEs at Grade A*-B which must include Mathematics, English Language and Double Science or equivalent qualification.
