About the course

The Cyber Security Executive Master of Business Administration (CEMBA) is a part-time postgraduate blended learning programme for senior leaders.

It provides middle and senior executives with the expertise they need to skillfully manage cyber security risk for their organisation. With a versatile learning style, this course equips participants with the knowledge and skills needed to better integrate cyber security considerations into their current business responsibilities. As the focus on cyber security continues to escalate at the board level, this innovative postgraduate programme helps candidates upskill for future advancement in their careers.

Recent research has shown that over half of UK businesses have a basic skills gap in cyber security (GOV.UK). The CEMBA is designed to bridge this skills gap and provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to confidently manage cyber security risks in their organisation.

Partnered with leading cyber security consultants, Templar Executives, and taught by international academic experts from the Lancaster University Management School and the School of Computing and Communications, the CEMBA programme is an industry first. It adopts a practical approach to learning the foundational concepts associated with leadership and management, applied in the context of cyber security risk. The university also offers a range of scholarships and bursaries to help cover the cost of tuition fees and living expenses for qualifying students.

The programme utilises a blended format and consists of 10 core modules that incorporate both business and cyber security topics; two Challenge modules that require students to apply their new knowledge to real cyber security problems; and a workplace-based research dissertation. Core modules follow a similar format: two weeks of individual online preparation; three days of face-to-face engagement at the Lancaster University campus; four weeks of follow-up tutorials and assessment preparation. The programme is 24 months in total.

Lancaster University is one of the top 25 most targeted universities by the UK’s top graduate employers according to the “Graduate Market in 2023” report. It is also one of the top 10 UK universities in the Financial Times European Business Schools rankings and is quadruple accredited by AACSB, AMBA, EQUIS and the SBC. Frequently ranked first globally for Corporate Strategy, the LUMS MBA leads the way in participatory learning for post-experience students.
